Mrs. Definite: "My father died of prostate cancer. But I'm trying not to worry about it because my gynecologist reassured me I don't have one."

Lorelei Armstrong said...: My father died of prostate cancer in August. During his long battle I congratulated him on having the foresight to have two daughters. Especially after we discovered that his uncle died of it, his father died with it, and when alerted his one male cousin was found to have it. Nobody had ever told us it ran in the family because it was "too private."

We'll worry about my nephew when we get there. Hopefully there will be a more substantial treatment or cure by then. My gynecologist is likewise not on high alert.; February 29, 2012 at 4:55 PM

wellillbe said...: What surprises me is that no one has commented that an inherited risk for prostate cancer on one soide of the family canincrease the daughters risk or certain types of female cancers like ovarian and breast if it is gene based. Not that she will get prostate cancerbut if it strongly runs in her family she does need to be on higher alert for "female cancers; March 3, 2012 at 9:02 PM
